YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!

Happy Summer everyone!

Saturday, May 7th was the first day the shelter was open to the public.

If anyone wishes to get involved with this critical project, here are the details:

Who: We need responsible adult volunteers (18 & over) willing to commit to work at the shelter one Saturday a month. We are forming four teams of three people, and will keep a list for those who cannot commit now, but are interested in helping in the future or on a substitute basis.

When: Each team will work only one Sat. per month. Volunteers will need to be at the shelter at 8 am and stay until 2 pm. Our goal is to begin the Saturday openings on May 7th.

Duties: Cleaning cages, assisting with animal care and socialization of animals, grooming as time permits, separating newspapers, running the washing machine/dryer, assisting potential adopters with general info regarding spay/neuter guidelines, humane education, etc. If youvhave special needs or disabilities that would prevent you from doing some of the duties, let us know. You may still be able to help.

Supplies needed: Old clothes that can get dirty and wet, boots, a change of clothes, your own snack/lunch. Rubber gloves, cleaning supplies, etc, will be provided by the shelter.

Other: A waiver, drawn up by the county attorney releasing the county from any liability in case of personal injury, will be signed by each volunteer.

Training: Is required and will be provided by the SCHS at the shelter on two of the following dates in April – the 9th, 16th or 30th from 9 am – 10:30 am. Let us know your preference.

Pam Howell (276-685-2669) will be co-chairing the project. If you are interested, or have questions, please contact one of them ASAP, so we can get our teams formed. They will be contacting all 2010 volunteers, members, and donors by phone within the next week or two. If you cannot volunteer, but know of someone who might be interested in helping out with this project, please give Pam their names and contact information.

We appreciate your consideration in helping with this important project, which has been in the works since early last summer.
